Black Sherif owes rent of 2 billion. The court orders him to pay or else [Read more]

Ghanaian musician Black Sherif, born Mohammed Ismail Sherif, has been dragged into a legal battle over unpaid rent, following an order by the District Court 1 at Adentan Fafraha in the Greater Accra Region.

According to court documents, the award-winning artiste owes a total of GH¢229,500 in rent arrears for his residence in Accra. The suit was filed by Dr. Evelyn Esi Awittor, who claims that Black Sherif has failed to pay rent on the property since August 2024.

The court revealed that multiple attempts to personally serve Black Sherif with legal documents were unsuccessful. Due to this, the court approved substituted service, allowing the documents to be officially served by posting them at the court premises and at the disputed property located at House No. 4, Recreational Close, NTHC Estate, Adjiriganor.

This legal step allows the case to move forward even without the physical presence of the defendant.

Beyond the accumulated arrears, the court has further ordered Black Sherif to continue paying a monthly rent of $1,700, converted into Ghana cedis, until he vacates the property. The court also noted that interest continues to accrue on the outstanding amount at the prevailing bank rate.

In its ruling, the court stated that proceedings would continue in the absence of Black Sherif if he fails to appear before the court. This means the case will not be delayed due to his non-appearance.

The news has sparked conversations across social media, with fans expressing mixed reactions. While some have called for patience and fairness, others believe the matter should be resolved swiftly to avoid further legal consequences.

As of now, Black Sherif has not made any public statement regarding the court order.
