” I apologise for the embarrassment caused by my Leaked Intimate Video” – Serwaa Amihere Speaks Out

Ghanaian television presenter Serwaa Amihere has spoken out about the recent leak of an intimate video from 5 years ago. In a statement released on April 24th, 2024, Amihere expressed deep regret over the situation and apologized for the embarrassment and disappointment it has caused her family, loved ones, employers, and associated brands and businesses.

The video was posted online on April 2nd, 2024, nearly 5 months after Amihere first faced threats and extortion attempts related to the video. Law enforcement had been working to identify and apprehend the extortionists.

In her statement, Amihere said she had significantly “underestimated the extent of my influence, my potentials, what I would become, and what I would come to represent to this society” at the time the video was recorded 5 years ago.

She took full responsibility, stating “Sincerely, I say sorry for the embarrassment, disappointment, and frustration which this matter has caused.”

Amihere added that she has “learnt deeply useful lessons for the future” from this difficult experience of having deeply private moments exposed without consent.

The brave television personality maintained her composure and professionalism in addressing this personal violation. Her willingness to face the situation head-on and her accountability are admirable.

While the non-consensual sharing of intimate videos is never acceptable, Amihere’s statement is a reminder that public figures are human. We all have moments we regret and learn from. Her openness may help others feel less alone in facing cyber exploitation crimes.
