The 2026 Independence Day celebration in Bawku Municipality was filled with joy, unity, and excitement as schools came together to mark the historic occasion. After four years without Independence Day celebrations due to the conflict in the area, this year’s event brought renewed hope and happiness to the people of Bawku.
Kpalwega Technical Institute surpassed other contenders, including Bawku Senior High Technical, which came second, and Azoka memorial Academy, which took third place. The parade was a testament to the resilience and determination of the reselience and staff of Kpalwega Technical Institute, who worked tirelessly to showcase their skills and patriotism.
Linus Wilson Anasah, the principal who’s appreciated by many for his outstanding leadership and dedication shown in guiding the school to success. His commitment to discipline and quality education continues to inspire students and bring pride to the entire community.

Students, teachers, and community members gathered to witness the colourful march past organized as part of the celebration. Many basic schools, junior high schools, and senior high schools across the municipality participated in the event. The atmosphere was lively as students proudly displayed their marching skills and discipline while celebrating Ghana’s independence.
At the end of the competition, Kpalwega Technical Institute emerged as the overall winners of the march pass. Their outstanding performance, coordination, and confidence impressed the judges and the large crowd that had gathered to watch the event. The victory was celebrated by both students and staff of the institute.
The return of the Independence Day celebration is a strong sign that peace is gradually returning to the Bawku Municipality. For many residents, the event was more than just a celebration ,it was a symbol of unity, hope, and a brighter future for the community.
